Isle of Capri Casinos Hits the Jackpot with Breakaway Technologies
Isle of Capri, a billion-dollar company that operates 18 casinos, needed a better-performing, more flexible
reporting system. The company also wanted to enhance their budgeting and forecasting processes.
Breakaway Technologies created a unified financial application in SAP Business Planning and Consolidation
(BPC), to support real-time reporting, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities.
Challenge Isle of Capri Casinos was using a product called “Timeline” to support its
actual reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes. But it wasn’t working very well.
Employees could not access actuals in a timely manner and the data was not always
up-to-date. The existing budgeting and forecasting processes had become unwieldy and
employees had no real-time consolidation capability.
The company needed a way to increase the performance and flexibility of their reporting
system and to enhance their budgeting and forecasting processes. They wanted
to consolidate departmental numbers more easily and to have a better drill-down on
values reported. They called Breakaway Technologies to gain a competitive edge.
Solution Breakaway implemented SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC), an
industry-leading Business Process Management (BPM) tool to act as the central database
to consolidate the various silos of data that existed throughout the enterprise. The
SAP BPC application is integrated with Excel, so the data from these disparate sources
can be brought together by end-users for analysis in a familiar analytic tool, leveraging
previous investments in training and technology. Through the Web component,
employees can share information readily and consistently across the enterprise. Since users
are still accessing the same data source, their data is protected through the integrated
system security.
Return on Investment Isle of Capri was transformed from an organization where all
ad hoc reporting was carried out through a single technical resource, to a company
where users throughout the enterprise can create their own reports and initiate their
own ad hoc investigations. This central database also serves as a single version of the
truth, eliminating much of the confusion with respect to reconciling numbers from different
data sources.
Today, Isle of Capri’s enterprise-wide, Webbased solution supports the company’s
forecasting, budgeting, and reporting needs. It also leverages the company’s prior investment
and training in Microsoft technologies, specifically Excel. “We couldn’t have done it
without Breakaway’s guidance and support,” says Triplett.
Since the company’s implementation, design, and integration of the Corporate Performance
Management (CPM) tool with Excel, adoption by end-users has been very high. “Thanks to
Breakaway, we now spend more time analyzing data as opposed to collecting and consolidating
it,” says Dori Triplette, Isle of Capri’s Manager of Accounting and Financial Reporting.
